i dont find it fair that the white people got away with killing a black man for no reason. him pretending that the black man attacked him was really messed up. . “But you don’t have to be acting up to be targeted” by police, Harris said. “You can just be walking home from the store and bang, you’re a target.” that quote is really sad that just cause your black you get targeted B.D
ReplyDeleteI feel that this topic is very complex and controversial and there's more than one way to look at the subject. My general thoughts would be that killing is wrong. Period. No matter what walk of life you come from, killing any other human being regardless of the circumstance is wrong. Adding the racial portion of this topic is where things become sticky. I believe that this situation was the breaking point for America to see that things really are corrupt in our world. In the New York Times article it said, “There is a cry being made from the ground, not just for Michael Brown, but for the Trayvon Martins, for those children at Sandy Hook Elementary School, for the Columbine massacre, for the black-on-black crime,”. Basically, Mike Brown is what finally opened up our eyes to try and see the underlying truth. Racial injustice still continues all around the world, and our mentality in today's society has simply been disrupted. It's sad that we have to keep having these horrible situations occur in order for us to realize the things wrong with our society, but they're happening. And there is really no way to stop it. A.H.S

ReplyDeleteThe article talks about how a white cop shot and killed a unarmed black teen several months ago. A memorial and funeral have gone by for Mike Brown (the teen who was killed) controversy spread through the united states and start a big question of how our police officers are being trained well or not. Its quite the sad tale and I would agree that cops (depending on the person) could be certainly racist against blacks, or none white people. I hate to think that this stuff happens all the time and this case just happens to get the word spread it happens a lot more than just the few cases like this that get public attention. Not much is known about that night but it wasn't for certain in the police's favor. Some areas like in the south still hold old grudges or mind sets that whites are "better" and that's not nice to think about but if we don't how can we fix it? It even gotten the presidents attention and had a few news casts where he explain the situation and wants to change especially because he's black himself and him being president show's progress but clearly we are still far behind. I'm white myself and frankly I hate the mind sets in the south and other "not well educated" areas here in America. I feel bad about being my skin color cause of things like this. Doesn't help that the town has my last name which some ignorant/stupid people might make a stupid connection with and I know it will happen. My general reaction to the article is that I feel really bad for what happened and it really shows in our society also I feel bad being simply in my own skin.

This teenager still had a life to live which can not be finished he was unharmed so why was his life ended it made you think.This world still has different beliefs which is fine but in my opinion blacks and whites should be treated the same . The white police man had no reason to shoot him it was unfair and now his family goes through a very tragic life without their son.This world can scare you and make you feel uncomfortable in your own skin and to be your self because you're scared of what might happen or what people would say.In this article it states Ewing saying “i love you mike. Thats all ive got to say”. This quote is sad to read because a lot of people probably loved him and now they can't even hug him . It just to shows that our lives, our world ,even the people around could be up to no good. This world could leave love but instead it intends to keep bring up the past where you had to be this and that to accepted .

The death of the young man that happen in Ferguson ignited concern and fury throughout the country. I think this happen because people are tired of hearing about young children dieing by the decisions of adults. For an example, the article states that some of the people at the young man’s funeral had people die in the same circumstances. The circumstances are that a police officer shot and killed an unarmed man. If this happened before why have I only heard about this situation once.

I feel that what happened to Mike Brown is wrong. The police officer should’ve never killed him and I feel bad for Mikes family and friends. He is missing out on many important things in life. “Around the nation, Monday was the start of a new school year at many colleges, and on dozens of campuses students walked out of class and held demonstrations to mark the fact that instead of sending Mr. Brown to college, his family was mourning him.” That quote shows that one thing he is missing out on is college. I think that the protesting wasn’t needed though. They were just ruining things in their own town and ruining stores and buildings that had nothing to do with the killing of Mike Brown.

“The real question is how many days will pass before another unarmed black man is killed?”. This quote used in the article is important because it is true, if an unarmed black teenager can just be murdered for nothing then it is scary. why must people judge others by how different people are and just except that they are different too. It is ridiculous that someone that is dark skinned can’t get a belt that happens to be expensive because if he or she does they are going to get killed. Also going back farther in the past where Emmett Till, a 14-year-old who was murdered in Mississippi in 1955 after whistling at a white woman. Now that is insane I don’t understand how someone can do such a thing without guilt.

Michael Brown was shot and killed by a police officer while he was unarmed. The Michael Brown incident in Ferguson Missouri has been heard and read about throughout the nation. The town and much of the state erupted in fury, just like when Trayvon Martin was also killed while unarmed in Florida. “About 14,000 of Ferguson's 21,000 residents are black, but the City Council and Police Department are overwhelmingly white.” If the officer really felt that threatened by an unarmed 18 year old kid, the officer should not be working or the officer should get their eyes checked. “The survey found that 46 percent of blacks have ‘“very little”’ confidence that police will treat blacks and whites equally, compared with 12 percent of whites.” 46 percent of the white population in Ferguson is saying that they feel the police are on their side, while 12 percent of the black population is saying that they don’t exactly feel completely safe when the police is around. Is this because the police and City Councils’ ethnicity is mostly white?

I fell like the death of Michael Brown is a start of a new Civil rights movement. “Brown’s death must mark the beginning of a change not just in the justice system, but also the African-American community.” More than 2500 people went to his funeral, from all over the country. The survey done by the Pew Research Center and USA Today, found that 46 percent of blacks have “very little” confidence that treat everyone equal cops. White people are more likely to have confidence that cops treat everyone the same.

I think that what happened with Michael brow shows that there is still hope in this world. I know that the death of him is devastating and will take a while to get over for many people, but it showed that people can come together for a better purpose.” After the service, hundreds of family members, friends and supporters of Mr. Brown huddled under and around a green tent at St. Peter’s Cemetery in nearby Normandy on Monday afternoon as Mr. Brown’s coffin was lowered into a copper-lined concrete vault.” This shows that people still care and will come and rally to help others there was also celebrities at the funeral and many seminar that went on in a lot of colleges this is why I feel there is still hope in our world.

It ignited outrage throughout the country. People might think it’s wrong for a white person to shoot a black man. Michael Brown’s hands were up, and still the white police officer shot him. This is similar to Trayvon Martin who was also killed by a white man in 2012. I feel like there will never be a time where white and black people are treated equally. “The survey found that 46 percent of blacks have “very little” confidence that police will treat blacks and whites equally, compared with 12 percent of whites”. If there is a day when both races are treated equally, I think it will take years and years to come.
