  1. The death of Michael Brown is a very sad thing to think about. Yet it is also a time to think about change. We all must respond to this sad event, as Al Sharpton said “all of us are required to respond to this event, and all of us must solve it”. We all must think about how we, as a whole can prevent an event like this to happen again. “Solving” a huge problem like this could take years yet, I believe it must be done.

    1. I totally agree with you, because Michael Brown's death should never happened. For a change to occur, everyone needs to do their share. We need to start caring for each other no matter what differences in color, culture or origins we may have.

  2. This article talks about a really sad situation that happened to a black family in Ferguson. As a result, lots of violence has erupted in Ferguson. Bishop Edwin Bass said: “It is imperative that we resist the temptation to retaliate by looting and rioting in our own neighborhoods.” Michael's death was an act of injustice. This situation shed light on the issue of discrimination and racism against black people. I believe that discrimination and racism need to stop, not only in Ferguson and the U.S. but in the whole world. Also we can make this change happen by learning to respect others for what they are and not because of the color of their skin of their origins or beliefs, because we are always going to be different.

  3. I think it is very sad about the loss of this young man. There is another side to this though. Unfortunately black people and white people have been in rivalry for years, and this is being used for another point to the blacks side. If a white cop shot a white person i bet this wouldn't of been a big deal, but now that the boy is black and the officer is white it adds a whole other story to this. ----dom corrao

  4. Though major improvements have been made in society these days, the death of this young man, Michael Brown, proves exactly what we've been fearing for the longest time; that us Americans are still living in a racist world. His death was tragic. It started protests and heartache all over the country. It spread quickly like a wildfire that obviously has no intentions of going out anytime soon.

"'We shall overcome,' the mourners softly sang at one point."

It's going to take time. SO much more time until everyone will be able to overcome a tragedy like this. It'll take time for everyone to heal.. and it will take, undoubtedly, more time for everyone to overcome.

  5. This article shows the importance of the problem. It is very sad that this happened to Michael Brown. It is a sign that we need things to change and in order for that to occur, everyone has to work together. But, that is a very hard thing to accomplish. “All of us are required to respond to this,” Mr. Sharpton said. “And all of us must solve this.” It will take a lot of time, but it is necessary for a change to come into play.

  6. Browns death caused such an outraged all over the country because people are considering it as a racist attack, that just because the police officer was white that’s why he shot him. Although we don’t know whose side of the story is correct I see why the community in Missouri is so angered. This event shed light on racism and how it still exists today. I think equality for every race needs to happen and everyone should be treated the same, it is sad to think that people today still kill each other over the color of their skin. This change can happen by people starting protests and going out and making people aware of what’s happening, the people that want a change need to go out and fight for it to else it might never happen if they just sit back and watch while these innocent people are being killed because of race. –Morgan period 7

  7. In Ferguson, the death of Michael Brown was a devastating time for his family and everyone who knew him. After reading this article, it became clearer to me as to why there needs to be more changes made in the world and a lot more goes on than we think. In the article it talks about how this boy who was black was shot by a white cop on August 9th and this situation also lead to the thoughts of Trayvon Martin as well. This article gives off the idea that racism and discrimination is still a problem in the world today. “There is a cry being made from the ground, not just for Michael Brown, but for the Trayvon Martins, for those children at Sandy Hook Elementary School, for the Columbine massacre, for the black-on-black crime,” the Rev. This quote shows that there is still some level of racism in the world and that it can cause more problems than we know of if it doesn't come to an end.

  8. Why did this young man's death ignite such outrage? When Michael Brown was shot and killed by a local police officer, people were shocked by the actions of the officer, the people of Ferguson, and the reaction of the country. “We’re starting school and he’s being buried, and we know that what he went through is something that we could have gone through." Many people are starting to reevaluate society and the world we live in. Are all people created equal? Whether or not the race of the victim and the officer are correlated with the death, is a question i'm not sure you can completely answer, but the fact is that an innocent man was killed by someone who is suppose to be protecting us.

  9. Personally i feel the media has done a horrendous job covering the events in Ferguson. The media while covering this tragic event have made police the enemy. As i watched the events unfold in Ferguson i began witnessing violence and looting from the so called "peaceful" protesters. I agree with all of you that the death of Michael Brown was tragic and horrendous but at the same time we can not have riots every time a person is shot. michael g p7

  10. Unfortunately this is not that rare that a young black male killed by the cops.It forces us to look at racial profiling and racism in general in the world.I don't really know how this problem could be solved because it is really hare to change the way of the people think about race.“Nobody is going to help us if we don’t help ourselves” Sharpton is a leader in the black community and he is telling African Americans they need to work at racial understanding as will as the white community.

  11. To some people, Mike Brown's death might seem like just another criminal being "taken care of" by the police but it is in fact a wake up call to America. "the larger issues raised by the shooting and its aftermath — of police relations, race and political power — remained unsolved and deeply complicated." This incident has made it evident that there is still racism and racial profiling in our country to this day. There needs to be a change in America but to be completely honest, I believe that racism is inevitable. You will always have that one ignorant person who is stubborn and opposed to change. I don't mean to seem pessimistic but I believe that completely solving racism in America - even the world - is unattainable because it's as if we're yearning for a Utopia which is completely impossible to have. 12. I believe that Michael browns death should change officers acts with dealing with non-compliment people. Instead of immediately being aggressive after someone says no or won't comply they should keep trying to not to have to use violence to solve the problem. To quote Al Sharpton“all of us are required to respond to this event, and all of us must solve it”. I completely agree with this quote and believe from now on officers should have harsher punishments if something like this event happens in the future.

  13. i think that what happend was very sad that he was killed in the way that he was. but also it shows that things need to change its not the first time somthing like this has happend. there should of been more of a reason for the officer to of shot him. the artical didint realy say a real reson why he did shoot him but im sure that there was some kind of a reason he thought it was nessary.

  14. The death of Michael Brown is a tragic thing. It is just another sad example of all the devastating acts that happen way too often. Monica Davey states, “There is a cry being made from the ground, not just for Michael Brown, but for the Trayvon Martins, for those children at Sandy Hook Elementary School, for the Columbine massacre, for the black-on-black crime.” After these tragic events the community usually comes together to support. What we need to do as a community is come together and prevent these unecessary things from happening. Donnie p7

  15. Michael Browns death was a tragedy, but it will not go unnoticed. I believe that this will change the face of racial discrimination. I believe that this will bring much more people together to help fight against racial discrimination. “There is a cry being made from the ground, not just for Michael Brown, but for the Trayvon Martins, for those children at Sandy Hook Elementary School, for the Columbine massacre, for the black-on-black crime.” These certain events help bring people together to prevent these things from happening in the future.
