  1. "The sordid Ray Rice scandal has opened a much-needed dialogue about domestic violence" Charles M. Blow stated. Domestic violence is a problem that must be addressed; we as a whole cannot ignore it. Ray Rice may be a super-star athlete but that does not mean he should get special treatment. Hearing that Rice was only suspended for two games shocked me & others as well. It makes me sad that only by having the video of Ray Rice abusing his wife made public that the NFL and the Ravens were embarrassed enough that they finally suspended him indefinitely. Even though the whole scandal is a horrible thing, it is raising awareness to domestic violence.

  2. "The N.F.L. suspended Rice for a measly two games. The nation was outraged, but the league defended its decision. But then another tape was made public showing Rice and Palmer in the elevator, with him punching her in the face and knocking her unconscious." I think that the NFL needed to take more action on him because suspending him for 2 games is not going to make a difference to him. If the NFL knew that this had happen and also seen the evidence and tried to cover then i think they should get a punishment for that too. They need to take little more action on him. So there should be little harsh punishment for domestic violence not just in US but all over the world in all countries.

  3. The controversy over Ray Rice's domestic violence scandal has caused people to ask if professional athletes or other famous people get special treatment. I think no matter your profession, all the same laws and consequences should be put in play. People don't learn, and change their ways unless they are rightfully punished. If Ray Rice is not punished the way all others who do the same crime are he will get the thought that he is allowed to continue. “He’s a person of character. The thing that’s really important is to be able to support the person without condoning the action. He makes a mistake. There’s no justifying what happened. When you drink too much in public, those kind of things happen.” also, when a coach says this, it shows their support of the wrong doings of their players, which should not be accepted. Ray Rice's wife also stated, “I do deeply regret the role I played in the incident that night.” This should not be the way our society views domestic violence. The victim should not feel that she is the one who caused the altercation to happen.

  4. Ray Rice being suspended for only two games after knocking out his fiancée in an elevator is not much of a punishment for the domestic violence. Being an NFL football player and physically hurting his own fiancée, he should have had more than just the suspension of two games. In my opinion I feel as if all the consequences for domestic violence should be the same, even if your profession is in jeopardy. The NFL should have either kicked him off right away instead of suspending him and waiting for the second video to be released of him punching her in the face.

  5. This situation of Ray Rice has caused a lot of controversy because some people are agree of how the N.F.L acted in this case, but other people think that the N.F.L should be more strict with Ray Rice. In my opinion they should be more strict with him because even if he was drunk that doesn't tell us that he is not going to do it again, because some man say that they will change but they don't. What surprise me is that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that “More than one-third of women in the United States (35.6 percent, or approximately 42.4 million) have experienced rape, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner at some point in their lifetime,” that's why I think that all women that have this situation should go to the police no matter if that person is a celebrity because you need your safety first than being worried about what other people say. Also the United Nations said that “Violence against women is a universal phenomenon” , that means that domestic violence is not in U.S. only is also a national problem. And the only way that we can solve this problem is by encouraging the victims to speak out no matter what the aggressor tells them.

  6. I am 100 percent against abuse but I think that this is too far into the future to not of been done earlier. I believe that they should of had these disciplinary actions years ago and not just start it now every person that has abused someone to them must be punished but it'sunfair that this one man is getting penalized after all these years. The NFL wouldn't really care that this may be his wife but they just want the money and the advertisements so considering that the money and the advertisements or sponsored by this man they do not want to set a bad example Dominickcorrao

  7. I think that it is awful what Ray Rice did to his wife and that should never happen to anyone in any situation. But the bright side in this story is it brought more attention to the issue of domestic abuse. Another NFL player Greg Hardy had received more harsh punishment by his team by being deactivated from it because he hit his girlfriend. It also brought attention to abuse around the country, almost everyone knows about the Ray Rice case whether they are a football fan or not. Hopefully we as a country can take away from Ray Rice and the video about how awful domestic abuse is and hopefully it will end.

  8. Ray Rice was suspended for two games for domestic violence on his fiance. Many people think that what he did deserves a much harsher punishment than that. This controversy started to make people wonder if famous athletes and other famous people get treated differently. No matter who the person is, everyone should be treated the same and get the same punishments for their actions. His wife said at the news conference: “I do deeply regret the role I played in the incident that night.” This shows that Ray Rice's wife was getting some of the fall for it too, even thought it was Rays poor decision. 9. I believe that Ray Rice should be equally punished as any normal person would. There should be no special treatment for him because of him being famous. I agree with the quote "Whatever one may think of Rice’s character, “those kind of things” don’t just “happen.” That is too casual a dismissal of a very serious issue." I completely agree with this statement and disagree with what was said before in the article about how things like this happen but shouldn't be condoned. This is because things like this don't happen and probably have happened before too and he should be severely punished to prevent future occurrences.

  10. I feel that Ray rice was not punished enough. I think there should be jail time for the player only suspending him for a year is not enough. the NFL should make an example of rice so that other players will know if they do domestic violence there will be sever consequences. Michael g p7

  11. I think the law should be more strict agent those who are guilty of domestic violence and the punishment should be tougher on ray rice or any one who commit domestic violence '' I let her down, I let my wife down, I let my daughter down. I let my wife's parents down. I let the whole Baltimore community down. I let my teammates down. I let so many people down because of 30 seconds of my life that I know I can't take back." this is ray rice apologize for what he did but i think the word sorry can't forgive what he did.

  12. This domestic violence issue regarding the altercation between Ray Rice and his fiancé at the time is not a typical situation. It's not normal because Ray Rice is famous and because of that, he is treated differently. When the NFL gained knowledge of the incident, they said that he is still one of their players and his actions do not reflect his character. "Whatever one may think of Rice’s character, “those kind of things” don’t just “happen.” That is too casual a dismissal of a very serious issue," says the article and I completely agree. Rice being suspended from 2 games as his original punishment is a very inappropriate punishment for using physical force on his wife. I am completely outraged at how lightly this issue was taken care of and the fact that the NFL had to see the video in order to take it seriously. I think Rice should've been removed from the NFL and arrested for his crime. Adjhani B, period 7

  13. The video that surfaced of Ray Rice hitting his wife was difficult to watch and even harder to believe as I am a big football fan. However, what was even harder to believe was the NFL’s reaction to this issue. Rice’s head coach stood by his player by stating “he will be part of our team” (The New York Times). Many people, including myself, look up to these players as inspiration. Rice’s display of character is a disappointment to all of his fans. This issue is being handled too lightly, “those kind of things don’t just happen” (The New York Times). It is important for the NFL to take a stand against this issue of domestic violence in order to set a good example for fans and followers. Donnie p. 7

  14. Domestic violence is very serious. But i believe that Ray Rices incident was not looked at the right way. His 2 game suspension for knocking out his wife was not suitable as a punishment for Rice. "The N.F.L. suspended Rice for a measly two games. The nation was outraged, but the league defended its decision." It seems like the NFL only cares about itself, like how Wes Welker was suspended for the first 4 weeks for using illegal drugs. I believe that a player hurting someone else should have a bigger penalty then hurting yourself.
