ARGUMENTS FOR THE JUSTIFICATION OF WAR
Please post at least two arguments that you would use to debate the justification of war. You can use examples from history, literature, etc... If you find data/ opinions online, be sure to copy and paste a link to where you got the information. Please checks previous posts so as not to repeat the same information/ ideas. This information will be used in a class debate and will be helpful with our first practice SAT essay topic: IS WAR EVER JUSTIFIED?

I believe war should be justified is when someone else attacks first
ReplyDeleteAlso, when it endangers other people/countries and they won’t listen to stop
If our lives are in danger of an attack, our nation has the right to war.
ReplyDeleteIf our nation needs certain things to continue from another country, then we have the right to war.
War is justified because it is necessary to dominate a tyrant, like Adolf Hitler, with as much lethal force as possible.
ReplyDeleteWar is justified because most of the time you are killing a couple thousand and saving a couple million. It is necessary to maintain a greater good.

War is justified because a nation needs to protect it's people from threats or attack.

I believe that in today’s time era war is necessary. Think about the chances of seeing our country and another “gathering” together talking about how to work the fighting out…. This would never be possible. That’s why war is there to stop end to all fighting. Sadly we don’t live in a country were peace is the main focus. Another why war should occur is because it’s our only self defense and reason to defend our country. War shows this by the weapons and fighting.
ReplyDeleteI believe that war is wrong. War kills more then it helps our country. The war can go on for more than a decade until some light shows of peace. War is also wrong since it’s the easy way out for the government. Being able to talk to a country about an argument is much more difficult than going to war.
I think that war is only justified when you are being attacked, and need to protect yourself, and the rest of the country around you.
ReplyDeleteI think that war is only justified when you are fighting for rights, land, or other things, that were taken away from you by the country that you are going to war with.
War is justifiable under the right circumstances. If inocent lives are ever being taken, than war is a necessary step in order to stop this killing. Also, if any country is invaded by another, that is justified for war. If a country is ever invaded, they plan on using violence anyways so war is unavoidable.

When 9/11 occurred, I think that it was right of the president to declare war because if we hadn't then terrorists would think that they could do it again and get away with it because we wouldn’t do anything.
ReplyDeleteWar can help to resolve conflict between countries, and I think it can be a good way for people to feel like they are really serving for their county.
War is justified when your country is fighting for freedom or something your country has based its rights around.

In my opinion I think that war is justified when a group of people are harmed. For example, 911 or the holocaust.

I believe war is never justified because the outcome is always horrific. Casualties and destruction always takes place within a war. Sometimes the reason we fight will become just to kill, or get what we want. We might even be fighting to maintain our own supiriorty (As a country or certain practice).
ReplyDeleteThe counter of this however, is that war is justified by fighting for what we think is right for us as a community/world. For example, WWII was a good cause because we were fighting to protect the jewish people and go against communism.

War is justified when we are doing what is best for the world. Like in WW2, Hitler was killing millions upon millions of innocent people and other countries had to step in and do what was best for the world. If that war had not been fought, millions more would have lost their lives. Another reason for the justification of war is when a civil war is happening and they declare war to reunite the nation. If there is a civil war going on that means other countries would probably get involved because they see it as a chance to take control of that country.

War is justifiable when you are being attacked by another nation, because if you dont fight back then you will most likely be taken over by the attacking nation.
ReplyDeleteIt is also justifiable when a nation that you have a treaty with is being attacked, if they ask for your help and you dont give it to them then you would be violating an international treaty and would likely have to go to war anyway because of your lack of action.

i believe that war is also justified when something is wrongfully taken from us.
I think war is justified when someone is attacking us on our own land. also I think when someone is planning on attacking us on or land we could hit them first in there land so thst it doesn't take place in the U.S.

1. War can be justified if a country is targeted or somehow involved. When Pearl Harbor was attacked, that justified America to join World War II.
ReplyDelete2. War can also be justified if it is completely necessary. If there is a threat of nuclear weapons in a certain country, then intervention can be justified.

War can be justified very simply in two ways. The most obvious being that a group that is attacked needs to defend its self and diplomacy doesn't always work. Another way to look at war is a way to oppose your ideas/morals onto others. Our morals and ideas generally reflect how we live, and if one way if better for us then we will probably end up more powerful. Because it is better for us it will probably be better for the rest of humanity and then the natural urge to spread your own way will kick in and probably lead to war. This doesn't always apply, and sometimes when it does there are better ways to go about it than war but it is never the less one way to justify war.

I think war is justified when a attacks b and b attacks back. B is using selfe defense so b has the right to fight back. For A, war wouldnt be justified because they started it, but for b it is justified because they were just protecting themselves

War is only justified if our country is in series danger. We need a very good reason to risk the lives of young men and women. 9/11 was a horriffic tragedy but the solution was rushed. We need to understand the consequences of what going to war needs. i do understand hat f we are in true danger war is the only way to fight for a solution
ReplyDeleteI guess you can say war can be justified for some reasons. Like the freedom to worship as we choose, the right to a fair trial before imprisonment, the right of people to live in safety without constant fear, the right of women to be treated as humans not animals. These are things worth fighting a war for.I also think that if war is forced upon a country then the war should be fought and war should be justified.

I think war is never justified because people who are fighting during war are there to destroy the bad things in life not the good. The war can sometimes destroy people’s mentality causing them after a while not to function the same.

War is easily justified in extreme causes of genocides or tyrancy, etc. I believe in a case such as the holocaust, war was a necessity to prevent a power from overcoming the entire european region, the good always overcomes the bad
ReplyDeleteWar is justified to keep a country in line. For example during the civil war, a war fought over slavery, helped mold a strong idea of freedom, and protected the rights of people.
