  1. For my entire life, I have not really had any concern for global warming, or what this article calls it, climate change, but after reading this i was shocked what kind of threats it poses and how its drastically changing our planet. If we don't do something about all the greenhouse gases and harmful chemicals were putting in the air, this problem could grow quickly and cause us some serious problems. In the article it says,"The oceans are rising at a pace that threatens coastal communities and are becoming more acidic as they absorb some of the carbon dioxide given off by cars and power plants, which is killing some creatures or stunting their growth, the report found." These are some serious problems that us as a community really need to get under control

  2. Climate change today is becoming more and more threatening to out environment. With all of the technologies we use such as cars, they are really hurting the plants and animals around us. Many animals are increasingly going extinct because of all the waste and pollution that is going in both the air as well as the water. In the text it said, "Communities and are becoming more acidic as they absorb some of the carbon dioxide given off by cars and power plants, which is killing some creatures or stunting their growth, the report found." We really need to start being more pro active about all of the damage we are doing even though we don't even realize it is happening.

  3. When I was a kid and went to a private school, we actually had a class on global warming; I don't remember the details of the class but I do remember that we spent our time going to all sorts of parks and going to public grounds. And we would plant trees, flowers; and the teachers would have us explain why we would have to plant these plants and they would talk about global warming. And the effects of it, and how we could help slow it down. I've always had that at the back of my mind when I'm out and about in my daily life; maybe not as much as other people but I do think about it. While I was reading the article I came across apart where it talks about the oceans, ..."The oceans are rising at a pace that threatens coastal communities and are becoming more acidic as they absorb some of the carbon dioxide given off by cars and power plants, which is killing some creatures or stunting their growth, the report found." Now, cities and towns that survive off of the water and the land usually depend on the water and the animals that live in the water. So when the report found that the animals growth was being stunted then; that would effect the economy of the town or city; they would have to catch more of that certain animal. The prices would rise if the fish/animal population goes down drastically. And it will go all down hill from there and if you don't see that as global warming effecting the earth and then our economy as a whole world then I don't know what to tell you.

  4. "The one message that comes out very clearly is that the world has to adapt and the world has to mitigate and the sooner we do that the less the chance of some of the worse impacts of climate change around the world" -Rajendra K. Pachauri We need to change our ways before it is too late. The article discusses long term consequences- these consequences are catastrophic for every on Earth. We need to be respectful to future generations by acting now because “waiting is truly unaffordable. The costs of inaction are catastrophic.” The affects of global warming may never haunt us in our lifetime bit it is our kids, and their kids that we have to wath over because eventually the world will be flooded with water, mass migration, and a release of greenhouse gasses that could potentially kill every human on earth. People need to start to realize how dangerous inaction is. Through the help of government, and foreign policy we can truly preserve the world for generations to come.

  5. "Nobody on this planet is going to be untouched by the impacts of climate change,” Rajendra K. Pachauri, chairman of the intergovernmental panel." This statement stuck out to me while reading this because not only is it true, but it also emphasizing the fact that we're in this together. We live on the same planet that has given us life and it's time to work together to save it, and ourselves. Many people, still, believe global climate change doesn't exist. I don't know if they're scared or what but the facts are layed out in front of them. “Now we are at the point where there is so much information, so much evidence, that we can no longer plead ignorance,” Michel Jarraud, secretary general of the World Meteorological Organization, said at the news conference." The time for skepticism is over. it's time for action and we need everyone on board. "The scientists emphasized that climate change is not just a problem of the distant future, but is happening now. "

I liked the article. The structure was very simple. It was a science article but wasn't overwhelming with the amount of facts. To someone who isn't thrilled by science, it wasn't boring. It didn't drone on. The author didn't apply a counterargument but with his topic, I can understand why. So much controversy, or there was. Over global climate change and by bringing in a counterclaim would defeat the purpose of the article.

  6. In today's day and age technology is something that has become part of everyday lives. Within seconds we can be notified of what the weather is going to be in China while we're standing in Washington DC. We are constantly processing an enormous amount of information about everything around us. One bit we seem to have been ignoring is the fact that global warming is real! Its a parasite thats slowly been killing our planet and without action will surely send Earth to its grave, and we don't want that. The article provides countless scientific evidence that this issue needs to be addressed or the planet will suffer the consequences. Now, for the first time in forever, people are making an effort to save the planet, " spend about $1 billion upgrading its system to prevent future damage from flooding and other weather disruptions." Precautions like these and many more will need to be taken to stop the rush of cold water melting from the polar ice caps, snow melting in the rockies too early and other severe water issues around the world. We need to take action and its good that people are finally seeing that.

  7. As global warming is continuing to grow worse on our planet, it is great that more and more scientists are taking a stance to strive to slow the process. As more scientists are involved, more people become aware that global warming is a significant issue in our world today. The article states, "Throughout the 21st century, climate-change impacts are projected to slow down economic growth, make poverty reduction more difficult, further erode food security, and prolong existing and create new poverty traps, the latter particularly in urban areas and emerging hot spots of hunger." With this statement published for the public to read, I feel that it will further inform the people of the very real negative effects global warming can cause all over the world. If something isn't done in response to our warming planet soon, later generations will pay the price.

  8. Global warming was something I was taught about since I was a little kid. I was always told not to litter and to recycle because that would help to make the world cleaner, however I never really knew why I should does things until later. All of our new technologies such as cars are having such a big impact on the world that cutting down pollution in anyway we can will be helpful, even if it only makes a little difference. Like Rajendra K. Pachauri said, “Nobody on this planet is going to be untouched by the impacts of climate change." I agree completely. This is not something that one person can handle. We all need to work together or else all of our futures will be effected.

  9. Climate change is becoming more and more of a concern as time progresses. In the article it states, "The oceans are rising at a pace that threatens coastal communities and are becoming more acidic as they absorb some of the carbon dioxide given off by cars and power plants, which is killing some creatures or stunting their growth, the report found.” This is very concerning and is something that we need to try to prevent by reducing the way we use transportation and affect the planet. By taking small actions we can help to prevent climate change from becoming a bigger problem that it already has become. "Nobody on this planet is going to be untouched by the impacts of climate change,” says Rajendra K. Pachauri, chairman of the intergovernmental panel. Therefore, everyone should try to make a change in the way they use technology and other things that have a negative impact on the planet in order to try to prevent climate change from worsening.

  10. Global warming is a growing issue around world which is causing climate change. Everyone around the world are feeling the effects of climate change. This is a growing issue that if it gets out of hand we may see catastrophic issues all around the world. According to the article, "...The report emphasized that the world’s food supply is at considerable risk — a threat that could have serious consequences for the poorest nations. This quote shows one of the many bad results that the scientist believe can happen. If the world's food supply begins depleting in my opinion certain countries will begin to deminish as well. Overall, climate change can really hurt the world so something has to be done world wide now so we can prevent it from severly effecting the world.

  11. Ever since elementary school I have heard of global warming. I never really paid much attention to it; I didn't even know much about it. However, after reading this article, we need to wake up and observe what's happening. We need to educate ourselves, because this is actually concerning. As it states in the article " The scientists emphasized that climate change is not just a problem of the distant future, but is happening now." Also, did you know that parts of the Mediterranean region are drying out? This is due to the climate change. We need to make ourselves more aware of the world around us, and we must do our best to slow down global warming

  12. Until now i didn't know how bad climate change is. It is very good that scientists around the world are coming together to find solutions or just to find out more info on this pandemic. “Throughout the 21st century, climate-change impacts are projected to slow down economic growth, make poverty reduction more difficult, further erode food security, and prolong existing and create new poverty traps". This quote from the article basically explains the reasons why everybody should be aware of this topic. Global Warming will effect the whole world, not just only a few countries. I hope scientists find a way to make everyone aware of this and hopefully make a solution.
