  1. After reading this article i realized that technology isn't really needed. I found this essay to be very true in a sense that everyone always has to be next to their phone, or else they feel like something isn't right, or they will start having anxiety. I was also in shock how the author said, "my hands ached for my phone" because in my opinion that is pathetic.

    1. i do agree with this comment because technology is not as important as everybody makes it seem. people need to learn to live life and not use the phone every second of everyday. It is better to just turn off the phone and enjoy what you are doing without having to worry about whats going on with different people.

  2. I really like the concept of “JOMO”- the joy of missing out-coined by Anil Dash. Most often, there will be “friends” and family probably doing something really cool and sharing that “coolness” with the world, but we have a choice in how we respond. I do hope that over time, we will develop healthy habits and self-control over technology. Hoffman refers to these habits as a “screen diet.” I think it must be really difficult for young people to find “joy in a life that is less connected.” I give you all a lot of credit because as a teenager, I would have had a difficult time regulating my time with social media. I am curious about your reaction to Wortham’s revelation that we should “relearn the beauty of living in the moment, devoid of any digital link.”

  3. My thoughts have changed about technology after reading this article, it really showed how the use of technology is really needed as much as people use it. In today's society people can not go a day without a cellphone. As the author said "my hands ached for my phone," that does sound exactly like the teenagers today. we always have to have the device in our pocket or hand. While being out somewhere or with people, it is rude to be texting or on the phone at all, so i do agree that you should turn it off and communicate with the environment around you at that moment.

  4. I do agree with the point the author made that people will most likely soon learn how to find a balance between having a healthy life and using social media. Technology has advanced very quickly over the last few decades, and in truth we really have only a fragment of an idea of what this will mean for future generations. Studies have already shown that technology can actually rewire the brain so that it essentially becomes an extension of a body, much like a professional archer, and we don't know what that can mean in the long run for a person. In conclusion, I believe that until we know exactly what the long term effects of constant technology use can be, we should try to moderate ourselves in the interest of having a healthy life.

    1. I disagree, I think that the use of technology will get worse as time goes on. I don't think people will find a balance between having a healthy life and using the social media anytime soon.

  5. I agree with this article. I think that technology has taken over. People need to enjoy themselves without their phone once in a while. Odds are you'll find yourself enjoying the time you spent without it more then with it. Technology isn't needed. People need to realize that it's okay to be without your cellphone.

    1. I agree with your comment about "odds are you'll find yourself enjoying the time you spent without it more then with it." Because people rely too much on there cellphones to get by everyday and without worrying about your cellphone all day everyday you'll be living carefree which is better than all the stress.

    2. i agree with this i think people can find more interesting activities to do besides use there phones all day, and i'm sure it's easy to find that you enjoy things without your phone more.

  6. After reading this article, it just shows how much we truly do not need cell phones. I think its kind of ridiculas how the girl felt so lost, its just a phone not a lifeline. My personal opinion is that i dont need my phone that much. I can do without it if i need to. People need to learn to rely less on technology and more on human interaction.

  7. After reading this article, Sometimes i do think yes people are addicted to their phones and its quite a luxary to have a phone that comes with all the attachments of being inbetween other peoples lives. This article does pose a very important point by saying getting away from your phone can really help out to relieve stress and just get rid of all the drama that comes along with seeing what everyones doing at every second of the day. It says in the article "I have to remind myself what I enjoy doing" completly says it that sometimes you do forget about what you like do to alot of people used to read, and do crafts but ever since technology people are only worried about twitter, facebook etc...

  8. this article makes very good points about how people should put down there phones sometimes and just enjoy what your currently doing instead of checking social networks and texting other people. for me it'd be hard to do this because im always on my phone but it seems like its the author was being over dramatic about it most people i know can go without there phone for a few hours without there being a problem. the concept of a "screen diet" also seems like a good idea.

  9. I have changed my mind about how tchnology is after reading this article. this article shows that people need to use there phones, also people always need to have there cellphones or some type of devise. I think that more people should lay off there phones because it is just like people keep useing there phones as like there "life" i do agree that you should turn off your phone and enjoy everything else around you

  10. This article really stood out to me because it relates to a lot of teens lives. We often rely on our phones and other technology devices too much. In the article it made me think when it said “Ask yourself: How important is this, really? How happy does it actually make you?” he said. “Harness that feeling of pride when you do resist and stick to it.” Because without my phone i think i would enjoy my life more than i do.

  11. These days technology is considered of the biggest distraction to society to the point where is can be dangerous. Technology can be dangerous to your health extremely; you can seriously hurt someone by using it in your car or even by using it before you sleep. Since technology is always updating so are people who use it. People do recognize that technology is a big health issues and some make the attempt to limit themselves but with technology changing constantly it’s hard to stop. I agree that people will one day find a balance with technology and life but not anytime soon.

  12. As a high school student I see a lot of "FOMO"(fear of missing out), as the author called it in the article. Everywhere you turn you see a phone or an iPod in someone’s hands, this technology really never leaves our side. I completely agree with the author when he said, “Social media sites, which ask you where you are, what you are doing and whom you are with, can cause people to exaggerate or feel the need to brag about their daily lives” if you log onto twitter, Facebook, etc., you see this happen all the time. No one posts about what they do on a regular basis, because of the fear of seeming boring. So they exaggerate and post about the things that don’t always happen. I think everyone would benefit from taking a break from their social networks every once in a while.

  13. This article brings up a good point that we don't need to constantly worry about what's going on with other people. We should just be content with what we are doing at the time and not worry about missing something. We can't be at every fun thing that is happening at that moment.

  14. This article was true. We really do not need our cell phones. If we all put our cell phones down, we will have better relationships with people. It is kinda sad that when people dont have their cell phones with them they will freak out, but then she learned to relax and relized that she did not need her phone and she wasnt missing out on anything. "I wanted to make sure I wasnt missing out on a music festival."But at the end of the day she wasnt missing out on anything

  16. I AGREE WITH THE AUTHOR’S OPINION IN THIS ARTICLE BECAUSE MOST IF NOT ALL AMERICANS IN THE US HAVE ELECTRONIC DEVICES and we all could cut back on not using them. There are many other things to do besides using technology and we most likely should start cutting back on them.

  17. I agree we would all enjoy life more if we didn't use electronic devices as much. However, even though people say they would be willing to stop using,I do not think it would be that easy. The article says "There is a lot of pressure in our culture to be an extrovert” which is true. Why else would people constantly be posting things to social media cites besides to impress everyone else? Wherever we go, we may not think we do this, but we are subconsciously thinking this would be such a great thing to post so even if we try to stop it would be hard.
