  1. After reading this article it shocked me because i never knew that if all the men in the world died we could still have a reproductive world and things would be fine."If all the men on earth died tonight, the species could continue on frozen sperm. If the women disappear, it’s extinction." Which in realitiy is a question we really dont need men.

I disagree with the thought that men are entirely useless, even today. Sure, if all men could be wiped off the face of the planet today and never be seen again our race could survive awhile, but that wouldn't change the fact that the sperm is a finite resource and eventually would dwindle to nothing left. The sexual reproduction method is reliable for a reason, as it makes the race stronger as a whole because of the amount of differentiation in offspring, as well.

  2. By reading this article it helped me realize that men are truly only need to reproduce. As said in the article, “If all the men on earth died tonight, the species could continue on frozen sperm. If the women disappear, it’s extinction.” This goes to show how much women are truly needed in this world.

  3. When I was reading the article I had felt that the writer had a good understanding of what they had been talking about. Also though I do disagree strongly with this writer because they do need a man to have a kid I feel most women would rather not use different ways to be pregnant. Other then I disagreeing on what the writer had wrote it was a well on how woman don’t need men to have a child.

  4. by reading this article it has made me realize how much more important women are then men today. women do not need men to have a baby. in the article it says "if a woman wants to have a baby without a man, she just needs to secure sperm (fresh or frozen) from a donor living or dead." This shows that men can all die and it will not stop reproduction. There will still be baby's being produced without all men. This article really shows how men are not needed in mankind.

Although the the author raised many good points, I believe the fact that technology replaces men also goes both ways. For example, with today's technology, people have successfully been born outside of the womb, and that with further technological advances it could possibly become an even easier method to child birth, perhaps even safer for the mother. Even today men have a large amount of relevance. Sure, men are not required to be around when the insemination occurs, but the genetic material is in fact needed. Sperm banks are not a reliable method to keep a civilization going, and they would collapse eventually as it is only a finite resource. In an evolutionary standpoint as well, men most certainly are not useless. A strong member of the families or tribes that came together was needed to hunt and gather food, and a woman certainly could not do that while heavily pregnant and/or nursing. In conclusion, both men and women are vital to keeping humanity going, as we would be weakened as a race if one of the genders were to be missing.

    1. I agree. These points are important because they use science to provide back up. they are also very strong and are easily understood.

  6. After reading this article it was quite shocking that men can reproduce even after they're dead. In the article is says "Ultimately the question is, does “mankind” really need men? With human cloning technology just around the corner and enough frozen sperm in the world to already populate many generations, perhaps we should perform a cost-benefit analysis." This shows that even if all men on earth died today there would still be enough sperm to reproduce for generations. This shows how important women really are.

This article brings up some acceptable points. However, all of the resources used to get information are female. This causes a one-sided argument. If men were not included in the argument , then all possible points are not explored.

    1. this is a good point because the article was kind of bias and didn't talk use any men to make a point by asking them questions about the topic

  8. Biologically, I guess you don’t need men anymore, because there is frozen sperm to carry on the human race without them. But men aren’t just playing the roles of “sperm donors” they’re fathers, brothers, uncles, friends, protectors, and a big part of life. Yes woman can take the roles of men and survive on their own with just artificial insemination but that’s not the point, men aren’t just tools used to make babies, just as women aren’t either. Women and men are both equally necessary to a successful and healthy race.

  9. This article about the world being able to go on without men was interesting but the thing that caught my eye was that “If all the men on earth died tonight, the species could continue on frozen sperm. If the women disappear, it’s extinction.” This was interesting to me knowing that women could go on without men in the world.

  10. I thought this article was very interesting. I realized that men are technically not needed. Woman can survive by themselves because of the amount of frozen sperm we have on Earth. "Fathers can be absent.”

    1. I agree with your statement about men not needed on earth today. With the immense amount of frozen sperm on earth we can reproduce for many generations and have no problems. But i think you should've added more examples as to why we don't need men anymore.

  11. The authors tone in this article is very straightforward and informative. In this article the author talks a lot about humans and motherly instincts and the author shares a lot of facts and statistics making it formal article about how women play a bigger role then men in repopulating. Even though the article is more serious when the author says remarks like “does “mankind” really need men?” it sort of puts some humor and sarcasm in the article which lightens the mood of the article.

  12. I find it ridiculous that people think we could survive without men. The article says that there is “enough frozen sperm in the world to already populate many generations”. Many, not all. So eventually we would run out and there goes the human race. Also, if we got rid of men that would require everyone to be homosexual and I don’t think everyone would be fond of that.

    1. i agree with your statment. i think men are very important to the world and we would not last very long without them. even if you were to think about your day and how much you rely on them and then think about what would happen when they are gone. what would you do?

  13. In my opinion this article can be very controversial and could cause many arguments about men and whether or not that they are or aren’t needed. Even if we do play a limited role in the reproduction of humans we still play a part in it. “Then, at some point, your father spent a few minutes close by, but then left. A little while later, you encountered some very odd tiny cells that he had shed.” They would still need the sperm of men because what if women need men’s sperm to repopulate and there is none left in the future then that could cause extinction for our whole race of humans.

  14. After reading this article I realized how important woman are to the reproduction and the society. If all the men in the world die then people can use frozen sperm to make more men but if women die then the human race is extinct. As said in the article there is enough frozen sperm to last generations after generations.

  15. Reading this article was a large eye-opener to my perspective on the importance of men. It is true that men are only needed for sperm to reproduce and make the world a bigger place. We may only need them when it comes to reproduction but they are a big attribute to our society from the past, the present, and the future. Stated in the article, “Meanwhile women live longer, are healthier and are far less likely to commit a violent offense” does not make a huge difference in my idea that men are very necessary .If men were to disappear I believe “man-kind” wouldn’t last very long, with that said men are needed for much more then reproduction.

After reading this article I was surprised that men think of their self’s as just a sperm donor. I did not know that the father gets jealous of the bond the mother and the kid share. I think the woman would not do well if all the men disappeared. The reason why I think that is because the woman would need help taking care of their kid and they would also need emotional support also if they had a son the son would need someone to look up too, and I feel the father and the son share a bond together. “If a woman wants to have a baby without a man, she just needs to secure sperm” This quote is true but it would be harder for a woman to go through the pregnancy without a other half.

  17. I completely disagree with this author when he makes this statement about fathers, "That’s good, since women are both necessary and sufficient for reproduction, and men are neither." I disagree because man are necessary for reproduction with out sperm then there would be no babies being born. Yes women do have a more important role in reproduction, but so do the man. Also I believe that every child needs and deserves to have a father or a father figure in their life.
