Taking a look at a modern short story from "The New Yorker"

"A&P" by John Updike and Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery" were both originally published in The New Yorker.  The latter drew more mail than any other story in The New Yorker's history.  Please read a current short story, possibly in the "20 under 40" category, and write a one paragraph analysis.  Also, keep track of the metaphors and similes found in the story.  Print a copy of the story if possible.
