ReplyDeleteI think that the American Dream is to have a good job, a family, a nice home etc. I also think the American Dream is basically to have many opportunitites to have or do the finer things in life that are usually done in only the United States. I think everyone has a chance of living the American Dream, but it all depends how much you want to live it and how hard you work. If you are lazy and dont want to go out there and look for a good job, or apply yourself in school, then chances are you will not live the American Dream. But if you are hardworking, and you are someone who applys yourself and gives 100% with everything you do, than you will live the American Dream

For this assignment, I chose to interview my mom about the American Dream.
ReplyDeleteMy mom described the American Dream as, "To raise a hardworking, idependent family that is successful later in life." Also, my mom said that everyone does not have an equal opportunity at the American Dream because of the struggling economy, not everyoe can easily get a job and earn money to support a successful family. She also said that in previous years, the American Dream was open to everyone but with the struggling economy, it is becoming closed to many people. BQ Period 1

I think that the american dream would be an ideal perfect life of happiness, love, family, and finicial security. we typicall imagine the "American Dream" as two happily married parents with a son, daughter, white picket fence, dog, nice cars, beautiful home, plenty of money, and just unusual happiness all the time. I personally believe that the "American Dream" can be achieved by every single person in the world, however, everyones interpretation of the american dream is different. So in conclusion, anyone and everyone is capable to acheieve their "American Dream" because its their own personal pursuit or happiness, whatever makes their life feel complete. - Z.T.
ReplyDeleteFor this assignment I chose to interview my friend Jeff. I chose to interview him because he is a very judgmental person, and always has to throw his two since into everything somebody says. His thought’s on the American dream is that it is the person’s pursuit to happiness. It is the process in which people make something out of their life, to have the money, and the job, the perfect family and friends. He believes that anyone can reach the American dream as long as they try their hardest.

ReplyDeleteI think "The American Dream" is what ever future somone has planned for his/her self. So to me The American Dream varies from person to person. Different people have different dreams so The American Dream is different to everyone. People say that the white picket fence and the 2.5 kids with a dog is "The American Dream". I don't believe that idea is the American Dream for every one.It may be for some people, but not for everyone. I do believe that everybody has equal rights to his/her own American Dream, but some might be harder than the other, it all depends on the dream.

I chose my dad about the American dream. He said,"it is to stay together as a family. It also means to work independently and work hard. Also, to be free on what you want to do with your life." He also said, not everyone has the equal access to live a American Dream, because people are starving, there are homeless people, not enough money for the family.

I chose to interview my mom about the American Dream and her thoughts on it. In her opinion, "The American Dream is when you work hard, become independent, become successfull at whatever you do, and raise a happy healthy family." She agreed that because of someones race/or gender that not everyone has a fair chance at reaching the American Dream. Especially now with the way the economy is, it makes it that much harder.

For this assignment I chose to interview my mom. I chose him because she is a teacher and is very knowledgeable and I thought she would have a good insight on the topic.
ReplyDeleteWhen I asked her what she thought of the American Dream she said that it was coming here to have a better life. That a person has to work hard to follow thier dreams. She thought it was about hard work that pays off to have a picket fence, perfect family and perfect job. She said that the American Dream is to work hard and be able to play and enjoy yourself, to support yourself and your children.
When I asked her if she felt that the American Dream was equal for everybody, no matter what race or gender you are she said no, not 100%. For some people it is definatley harder to succeed then others. There is supposed to be equality for all but it just doesn't happen.

For this assignment I decided to interview my father. I chose him because he is very knowledgeable and I thought he would have a lot to say about the topic at hand. When I asked him what he thought the American Dream was, this is what he said. He believes that the American Dream is financial success and coming to America to make something of yourself. America is known as the land of opportunities and a great place for people to find good jobs; therefore making them successful. He also thinks that the American Dream includes stability, a family and a place to live. One strong point that he had was the American Dream provided a better life for your children; a life better than parents had when they were young. Next I asked him if he thought the American Dream was available to everyone. He responded that yes, it was available to everyone. He believes that anyone of any race or ethnicity can achieve the American Dream. He gave me examples to support this. One example was there are plenty of foreigners who have opened their own businesses or stores. Also another big example is that we now have a black president. Obama who is of African American decent has achieved the American Dream and is now the President of the United States.

The person that i have interviewed my dad had many of thoughs about this topic. The one thing that he said the most was that everyone had the same chance but it may be givin to them at differnt times. so what hes means is that at one point in time everyone will have a chance to make that option happen. Then he would enfisize that wheater or not the person will take that option and turn it into somthing or would they just use it for the time to shine for that few minuts. so it is up to the person the way that they use their chance to get their american dream .

When asking my father about what he thought of the American Dream, his response was that “For some it is the dream of freedom and equality, for others it is the dream of a fulfilled life or even a dream of fame and wealth. In general, the American Dream can be defined as being the oppertuninty and freedom for all citizens to achieve their goals and become rich and famous if only they work hard enough”. He also said that everyone does not have an equal chance of achieving the American Dream. “In my eyes, the American Dream system is tilted in favor of the wealthy. To get a shot in this world you ned a collage education. To get that education you need a large some of money. It proves to be true that it costs money to make money”

The American Dream is to have a happy successful family. America is a land of equality. People come here to be accepted and for the opportunity to be successful. The American dream is that everyone will be successful and independent. I believe that everyone should have an equal chance for obtaining the American Dream, but that doesn’t mean that everyone does have that chance for success because America isn’t perfect but with hard work you should be able to achieve success.
ReplyDeleteDG Period 1
The American Dream is having the chance to succeed in almost anything. Many people come to America to have the oppourtunity to better themselves and get a better education. The typical american dream is having a nice house and a good job. America is made up of all diferent types of people that all at one point came here to create their own “American Dream.” I think that everyone has the chance to create a better life for themselves. No matter who you are if you work hard enough and set goals for yourself then you can have the American Dream. -CT period 1

A majority of people think that the ideal American Dream is being sucessful, smart, rich. Realisticaly, not everyone has the chance to accomplish this things in the ways that othes can. People are in different situations all throughout America and have different goals for themselves. I think the The American Dream is using the skills and opportunities that you have to suceed in something that you love to do. One could also just do things because that makes him or her a happy person. I do believe that everyone has an equal chance at achieving the american dream if they work hard to suceed in their own goals. Everyone has the ability to do something to make them a happier person and make their own ideal American Dream.
ReplyDeleteKS Period 1
Most people think of the American Dream is a nice family that consists of a mother, father, son and daughter. The father would be the one to go to work at six in the morning and come home at six at night to make sure the family has enough of an income to eat healthy food and have a nice home while the mother stays at home to clean and cook for her family. The children would be straight A students that are very successful at the sports they play. I believe that this is obtained by some Americans, but most people do not have a perfect family that gets along all the time. It would be hard to obtain this dream if you were a single mother or father trying to cook, clean, keep a good income coming in, and keeping the kids doing well in school. There is also still racism in America even though people do not want to admit it; this makes it hard for different races that are not white to get certain jobs which would make it hard to achieve this American Dream. I do believe that as long as you achieve your goals you should be happy even if it is not the stereotypical American Dream.

I agree with Mike's coment because it is pretty much the same as mine. He said that the American Dream is pretty much to have success through hard work. Also, he said that the American Dream is not available to everyone. Both of these statements were included in my initial comment on my intgerview with my mom. I think his dad and my mom have similar thoughts on the American Dream. BQ Period 1
ReplyDeleteFor my interview, I interviewed my grandmother. I chose her, because I feel that because of her age and experiences of life, she would have more wisdom than other people.
ReplyDeleteTo her, the American Dream requires hardwork and sacrifice. Nobody is simply given it, it is achieved through time, and effort. Unfortunatly, there are some who will never achieve that status. Those people, are the ones who lived off other's success and never truly challenged themselves or they lived their entire life by taking the easy road, never once thinking about what their decisions that were made in life would affect the future.

B.F.- "Foxtrott" i completely agree with your point of view on this topic i also have similar thoughts that are almost exact to yours. S.K.- "Delta" i think your fathers idea of the "American Dream" is dead on that is a really good point of view on life and sucess. S.R.- "Bravo" your idea is also similar to that of mine "Alpha", "Foxtrott", and "Delta", however i think that the american dream is 100% because some people are happy or content with being less fortunate or just to have a steady job instead of some fancy finacially set CEO. Everyone starts with a clean slate and even tho race, gender, and handicapps may cause a rough patch there are many people that have acomplished amazing things with all of those struggles. you can be anything you want to be as long as you put forth the effort. - Z.T.- "Alpha"
ReplyDeleteI interviewed Jack Leonard, the school security guard. In a lucky turn ran into him in the hallway after forgetting to do the interview for homework and I decided that he would be a suitable candidate for questioning. My conversation was brief but Jack was still able to share his opinion with me. He said that the American dream was the same today as it has been for everyone who came to the U.S in the past; life, life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Everyone, he said, was entitled to their own life and to the ability to improve their life without fear of oppression. He went on to say that he felt everyone has equal opportunity in America. Some people may have more of an advantage than others but ultimately, the opportunity is the same for all.

For this assignment, I chose to interview my cousin about the Americian Dream. He is currently looking for a job himself. He said that the Americian Dream was all about the freedoms, and being able to have them. For example: Religion, Speech, and more. At the same time it is to have a job, and be secussful. I further asked him if everyone has the access to this dream. He responded yes, it is just how much the individual strives to reach this goal. The person makes the bed in which he/she lies in. For example: if the person has a criminal record, they chose to make poor decisions, thus resulting in not being able to find a job. -GP Period Four
ReplyDeleteI chose to interview my peer for this assignment because she is the perfect example of the American teenager because she is an athlete, has a lot of friends, and expresses her freedoms to get a job, get a drivers license, and go to school to get an education that will carry her through life. Brittney will grow up to utilize the American dream even more than she is now, so I feel that she is a good candidate for interviewing instead of someone who doesn't experience the American Dream first hand.

I like what MP said in his response about the american dream. I agree that in this world it costs money to make money and a good college education is crucial to success in this country. I also agree that it is not an equal shot at the american dream for everyone because some are already finantially better off from the start than others. In turn, it will be easier for them to succeed rather than someone who starts from the bottom.

I decided to interview my dad. He said he belived “The American dream is to have a steady paying job, lucritive enough to allow support of a family, a place to lay your head at night and a happy marriage.” He said also “The opportunity is not open to everyone. There is no reason anyone should expect the ladder of social equality to be easy to climb. It is too difficult to get a job without a degree and it’s not something all immigrants have attained beforehand. The job market is also very picky on appearance, especially in the world of entertainment or sales. It isn’t entirely hopeless, trying to achieve happiness in this country, but it is not an EQUAL opportunity for everyone.”

ReplyDeleteI agree with B.F period one when he/she said The American Dream is giving 100% and not being lazy, I also believe that there is a reason we call it the American Dream. So many people move to America to persue their dreams beacuse it's not possile in their country. If people do no apply themselves and go out in the real world and try to get by in life by just taking the easy way they will never really discover how successful they can be.

ReplyDeleteI came from a pretty poor family, I didn't go to college and i still was able to make everything I wanted come true."
So in my opinion yes it is possible for everyone to have a chance to live the American dream. Someocne said in one of their blogs that it wasnt possible to live the American dream because they didn't go to college. I think that that is untrue simply because my Mom didn't go to college and she made a pretty good life for herself. He thinks the american dream consists of getting rich, having a trophey wife, and with your sucess buying a nice car and a beautiful house. For the second part however, I asked Joe Thomas. His oppinion was that unfortunately not everyone has access to the american dream. This is because people, instead of working hard get caught up in sterotypes and get distracted from hard work. Also, because the jobs that come with the trophey wife, expensive car and mansion are all held by people with college degrees. In order to get one of these you have to endure loads of debt or have the money to go to college, which not everyone does, which puts a halt on or lovely american dream.

for this assignment i interviewed my friend Ally General about the American Dream. Allys thought on the American Deam was " to come to american, find a good job, have a family, beable to have a job with a livable salary, and to live in a work with freedom and with alot of different people. Allly also said that everyone does have an egual chance and a fair access to the american dream because you can do anything you want to do as long at you work for it, she also said that nothing comes for free and everything you need and want isnt just handed to you.

I agree with B.F. period 1 when he says that if you work hard 100 percent of the time, you will lve the Amerian dream. working hard gets you places. hes also right when he saiys if you are lazy you wont get anywhere in life.

For this assignment, it took me a long time to choose the right person to interview. I decided to choose my dad because he usually always knows whats going on deep down in history. When Mrs. Baker announced the topic was the American Dream, I knew he was the one. He belived that its the life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness. Also, that every person is it grow up, raise a family, and hope that they can offer their children a better life than you can imagine. When my dad was growing up, he believed that not everyone had the same chance and access to a good education and the jobs than other people had. He also said in the past 50 years, that we, as a country, made major strides as a society and believed that all people that want to have a good opportunity to succeed in this country will. This is proved by the fact that Barrock Obama is president of the United States because when my father was growing up as a child, there was NO chance that we would ever see a black president in our country.

For this assignment I chose to interview my friend. I believe the American dream is to be able to have a happy family that you can support. Not everyone has access to this dream because of the minimal help some people are provided in life.

I choose to interview my Grandfather. I picked him because he is a very smart and opinionated person In his opinion, the American Dream is something that everyone would like to have, because it would mean that you have succeded and you would have good access to almost everything you want or can live comfortably. The American Dream is born of iving in the land of oppurtunity, oppurtunity is the answer to many problems in the world, because many don't have the oppurtunity to be any better than they are and make any more money than they are worth. They cant just move from the lower class to the upper class. So it is the opportunity to have the ability to go and be free to do as you feel so you can realize your goals and acheive anything you want as long as you work hard, no matter your race.
ReplyDeleteHe did not think the american dream is accessible to everyone, because of the pockets of poverty and poor health problems. The mentally unhealthy dont read, think, study or communicate well enough so they dont have a vision of what there life can be. People who want immediate rewards are deffinately on the wrong path.

this that i found interesting reading threw the other comments is i agree that the american dream is "to raise a hardmorking independent family that is later successful life" ...i also likes how someone said that the american dream is different for everyone.

i like what Z.T said about the american dream. This person mentioned that the American dream can be accessed equally because the American dream is diffrent to each person. Everyone has their own goals and dreams.

I chose to interview one of my friends that just graduated college, and get her take on the American Dream, for a younger point of view. She said that she thinks that the American Dream entails a lot of important aspects, but the main things are love, happiness, family, a job, and the opportunity to have them all. She thinks that It’s a privelege to have the opportunity to love who you want, and to do what you want. She said that everyone has to opportunity to create their own Dream and to fulfill it. She wants to be married, have a good family and a home, and a job in which she makes the same amount as her husband because she believes in strong women. When it came to the question of equality in achieving the American Dream, she sad that she does believe that everyone does have the chance to make it happen, but there are however more obsticles for people of different ethnicitys. She thinks that where you have been and where you grew up also plays a huge impact on how you act and how high you hold your dream standards. She doesn’t think that playing the race card will get you anywhere anymore because people have made great achievements without it, white or black.Everyone has to go through obstacles, and she thinks lately it's gotten better for everyone, despite color, age, or gender. Examples of making your dream a reality are all around us, as an African American, people have made flying leaps since older days, and there are scientists, athletes, astraunauts, and so many more that have made their dream come true. ReplyDeleteFor this assignment, I chose to interview my mom because I figured she'd have a lot of insight on the topic. She said she believes the American dream is having a job that you love, a family, your dream home, being successful and happiness. She said that she does not believe that everyone in the country has fair access to the American dream. She said it was because not everyone goes into adulthood with enough money or education, making the American dream difficult to achieve, and that if you do not have a good education or well-paying job, your access to the American dream is very limited.

I think that the American Dream is to have a good job, have a nice house, and pretty much a good life.It depends on how hard you work for it. Life doesnt just hand you a good job and a nice house you have to have the will to work for it.

For the American Dream assignment i interviewed my dad. He thinks the american dream is becoming self sufficent and becoming non relient on other people. Making something of yourself. When asking him if he thinks everyone has an equal chance of acheiving the american dream he replied that that not everyone has an equal shot at the american dream because different people have more or less money, and different people have better or worse work ethic. When i viewed other students post, i took note to MP's response. I liked his father's view on the dream the dream and how it's the opportunity of a life time and can be acheived with hard work.

i dont agree with AH from period 4, because her mom says it is possible for everyone to achieve the "American Dream". how is that possible. How can kids from the ghetto or with parents that are alchohilics or abusers possibly get the same oppurtunity to get it. You need someone by your side, and you need someone to cae about you and care about what you acheive in your life. if you have no one then its not as easy.

I interviewed my grandpa to see what he thought the american dream was. I asked him because he is an immigrant that came to this country. He said that he thought the american dream to be successful and have a nice home and family. He told me that everyone had this oppurtunity but he said that he, like other immigrants, had to work harder to achieve this goal. He said he had to overcome more coming to this country and becoming succesful, rather than someone already livng here.

In my opinion from reading everyone elses responces gave me the same idea. I believe that everyone basically had the same idea, but some people decided to go deep down into the meaning when others just simply stated what needed to be done on the task. I really focused on the parts where people talked about their families because to me thats the most important thing because you want to be able to grow up and raise an amazing succeeding family.

the american dream to most people, means "livin' the life" being able to get ahead in this world. sometimes, to some people, it seems like your stuck.it seems like you doomed to failure just like the everyone else you know. the hard part is trancending that idea. if you are able to forget the fact the very few people are able to make it big the the possibilities are endless. everyone was blesed with a talent. its just a matter of finding and cultivating it. never give up, aways keep trying and you will make it someday....fall down 6 times get up 7

I agree with AA from period 1. They said that the american dream is whatever future someone has planned for themselves. I think this is true because not everyone has the same goals and dreams and not everyone wants to achieve the same things in their lives. ReplyDeleteHer response:
The American Dream is:
-freedom to be all you can be
-freedom to worship the way you
-freedom to work hard and be successful
-and not have to be determined by your class, Caste system, race or sex
- it's nice to live in an organized society where people are expected to behave themselves
-everyone has the ability to access public schools, public universities, public libraries, etc.
- if you want an education work hard, stay away from substance abuse and crime and make the right decisions and you will be rewarded.

1)For this assignment I interviewed a family friend Tony. His ideas on the typical American Dream are that it’s unrestricted liberty to persue anything anyone wishes. That it is not about the money or the kind of car you drive. It’s about persevering things that matter to make you happy without the interferences from the government.
ReplyDelete2)Tony’s ideas on fair access to the American dream are that he doesn’t think the American dream can be found anywhere in the world. Race and gender hold people back. We have gotten better over the years with all of it but that doesn’t mean it’s still not out there. In the world there are lacks of social freedoms like the casts system and the rights people have. If you did want to have the American Dream your best opportunity is to find it in the United States.
MS Period 1
I interviewed my sister on her thoughts about the "American Dream." She believes that each individual has a starting point, whether they start off with very little money, or having a perfect life. If someone wants to fullfil their dream that badly, they will work the extra 110% to succed. It's not suppose to start off easy. To be proud of an American Dream, a person will most likely hit obstacles along the way only to make themselves stronger. When a goal is reached, its something that an individual should be proud of all the hard work into what they dream to do throught out their life time.
ReplyDeleteBP period 4
I chose to interview my dad because he seems like a typical american guy who would have an opinion about what the "american dream" means to him. He said that the "american dream" is different for each individual person and that everyone should strive and work hard to achieve their own "american dream". He said that if people wanted their dreams bad enough that they will achieve them and their "american dream" can be achieved. The "american dream" should be something special to each individual and be of meaning to them.

Many immigrants viewed America as a haven to escape their hardships and struggles. America was the birthplace of the American Dreams. The American Dream was known to many newcomers as starting off with a clean slate, getting a respectable job, and making enough money to support their family and desires. Although a significant amount of people had a dream, most people couldn't fullfill it due to hatred and racism. If your skin wasn't white or if you didn't have a "normal" accent then you were considered an outcast and your American Dream was automatically diminished to nothing. African Americans and immigrants were given mediocre jobs and laws were enforced to prevent them from the opportunities that were open to white Americans.
